50 YEARS OF GLORY
GROVE CHRISTIAN CENTER IS FIFTY YEARS OLD
GROVE CHRISTIAN CENTER IS FIFTY YEARS OLD
Yes, it is true! I am sure many reading this find it hard to believe, but it has happened. Grove Christian Center is entering its 50th year of ministry.
How did this happen? Many factors, beginning in 1939 when a simple lady (who knew the voice of God) declared that on her property, one day, would be a church that would touch the nations. This declaration began moving divine events that eventually culminated in a young couple, with four young girls, to take a step of radical faith and say “Yes” to the call of God. Leon and Lynda Vernon stepped under the ‘39 Mandate Mantle and helped birth Grove Christian Center, which sits on the corner of highway 10 and Shundi Rd. It’s the very land Lucy Henry owned and declared a church would sit on one day.
Pioneer work is always difficult. The spiritual ground was hard at times. Ridicule and rebellion reared its ugly head, but once Leon and Lynda put their hands to the plow, they never looked back. They fought for a release of God’s Glory and succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. We are here today. We are celebrating 50 years in the Glory, because Leon and Lynda said, “yes”!
The year 2006 brought an unexpected transition. On May 9, founding pastor, Leon Vernon, stepped over into the Glory of Heaven. Leon had asked Rhonda and I, some months before, if we would pray about taking over the church. We said, “yes” at that moment. We would be honored to carry on the ‘39 Mandate! So, carry on we have. I sit here today, and I look at 17 years of pastoring and ask, “How did this happen?” Many factors, beginning in 1939 when a simple lady, Lucy Henry, who knew the voice of God and declared that on her property, one day, would be a church that would touch the nations. I am a product of divine events that culminated in a shy young man, to take a radical step of faith and say “Yes” to the call of God.
We at Grove Christian Center, would love for you to join us, June 5-9, 2024, for a Jubilee Celebration for all who have been touched by GCC, Pastor Leon and Lynda Vernon and Pastor David and Rhonda Knox. This is an early reminder to “Save the Date” and make plans now. We will be sending out a camp-meeting brochure early next year and periodic reminders. We will have guest missionaries and ministers from many countries. We are beyond excited to see this “earthly host” come together for a glorious time celebrating and soaking in the Glory.
Thank you for taking time to read this lengthy letter. There is so much more to share, and we will at the meetings! Please pray about taking the time to celebrate with us!
Look for updates as the time gets closer.
God Bless you Richly,
Pastors David & Rhonda Knox
